Remembering Gordon Gullion

Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society presents a program called "Remembering Gordon Gullion" on Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m. at its museum in Cloquet, Minnesota.
Affectionately known as "Mr. Ruffed Grouse," Gullion's career in wildlife behavior and management led him to move to Cloquet as director of the Cloquet Forestry Center in 1958. As a full professor for the University of Minnesota for 30 years, he gained a national reputation for his research, publications and teaching on the ruffed grouse before his death in October 1991.
This program helps interpret the museum's current exhibit "65 Treasures," which commemorates the 65th Anniversary of the Carlton County Historical Society with 65 unique and significant items from the museum's collection that tell about the history of Carlton County. One of the 65 treasures is Gordon Gullion's slide projector. He used the slide projector on exhibit at the museum for his numerous programs and talks on local wildlife, especially his research on the ruffed grouse.
We will watch a taped interview of Gullion conducted by Cloquet's Harry Newby, Sr. and view photos and articles provided by his family. Those who knew Gordy Gullion may share their reminiscences, including family members.
After the program, refreshments will be served. Admission to the museum is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and free for children under 5 and CCHS members. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call the CCHS at 218-879-1938.
