For the second year, the Nordic Center and the Nortun Lodge/Sons of Norway are hosting Duluth’s version of a Gingerbread City. In November and December, Gingerbread houses and buildings will be on display for the public to enjoy. Area schools, churches, businesses, community clubs, lodges, individuals and families are invited to participate. All of the events will be held at The Nordic Center (Street Level) or the Norway Hall (Second Floor), located at 21 Lake Avenue, Duluth.
The public is invited to make and decorate a gingerbread house for display and learn about the Gingerbread City in Bergen, Norway at the “Gingerbread House Class” on Nov. 2, from noon – 3 p.m., in Norway Hall. Gingerbread, decorations, and snacks are provided. The cost is $10 per person. To register, contact Bonnie at 218-727-9929 or email: zaynesmom@hotmail.com.
Duluth area residents are invited to make a gingerbread creation on their own and drop it off on Sat. or Sun., Nov. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Norway Hall. After the display ends on December 14, the houses can be returned to their creators.
Make Nisse/Tomten figures and Pepperkaker ornaments with Alison Aune, UMD art education professor and UMD students at the Family Nordic Craft Workshop on Sun., Nov. 17 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Norway Hall. Supplies are provided for $10 per family.
The Pepperkakebyen (Gingerbread City) opens to the public at the Nordic Center on Fri., Nov. 22, from 5-8 p.m. the day of the Christmas City of the North Parade. It will be open for visitors on Fri., Nov. 22 until Sat., Dec.14. The hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; and Sundays, 1-4 p.m.
