Tall Ship Mist of Avalon at Grand Portage Rendezvous Days
to
Grand Portage National Monument 170 Mile Creek Road, Grand Portage, Minnesota 55605
Rendezvous Days in Grand Portage will be extra special this year, thanks to a visit by Tall Ship The Mist of Avalon as part of the National Parks Service Centennial Celebration.
The annual Rendezvous is celebrated every year during the second weekend of August. The event is held in conjunction with the Rendezvous Days Pow Wow, sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe). The annual gathering is the community’s biggest and most grand celebration of the year, a time when Grand Portage comes alive and reflects on its rich heritage.
Re-enactors from across the country and Canada gather to camp and challenge each other to games and skills from our historic past.
Visitors can expect a weekend packed with cultural events from the 1800s to 1900s, including: an authentic Native American Pow Wow with Stonebridge singers & drumming, as well as chances to try blacksmithing, arts and crafts, Native American cuisine, and recreational activities. All are invited to take tours of the historical ship The Mist of Avalon and much more.
The Mist of Avalon will arrive in port on Friday afternoon. Visitors who want a FREE tour of the ship can do so on a first-come, first-serve basis all-day on Saturday, and shuttles will be provided by Isle Royale’s boat the Sea Hunter throughout the day. Visitors MUST wear tennis shoes or dock shoes for the tour.
