Tall Ships in Plein Air
to
The Historic Union Depot 506 W. Michigan St., Duluth, Minnesota 55802
En plein air is a French expression meaning "in the open air," and it's used in the art world to describe artists who are painting their subjects directly from nature outside the walls of the Studio. With the arrival of the Tall Ships in the Twin Ports, the Duluth Art Institute wanted to celebrate the active Plein Air artist community in a weekend of painting and exhibitions.
The event is open to the public and artists of all levels and abilities. Artists will provide their own materials. Finished works will be displayed in the great hall of the Depot for the weekend of the Tall Ships. Lee Englund and Ken Marunowski will serve as plein air hosts for this celebration. Meet at the Duluth Depot at 5 p.m. on July 25 for location assignments. Painting will go until 8:30 p.m. Completed work will be on display in the great hall of the Depot from July 26 through July 29.
