Sacred Heart Music Center 401 W. Fourth St., Duluth, Minnesota 55812
Wendy Durrwachter: A Showcase Concert will premiere compositions by Duluth composer Wendy Durrwachter and feature the soloists Erin Aldridge, William Bastian, and Adam Sippola. One premiere is “Ultra Vires,” a term of legalese which translates to “beyond the powers.” This piece is in four movements and explores sonically the juxtaposition and interrelation of two ideas: boundaries and power. It is scored for solo violin (Erin Aldridge) and large chamber orchestra. It will eventually be turned into a violin concerto with full orchestra. Another premiere is a song cycle for tenor Adam Sippola, with Durrwachter at the piano. The text comprises of three poems by William Butler Yeats. Bill Bastian will perform three songs with text the composer has compiled from poetry of Duluth’s beloved Louis Jenkins. Vince Osborn and Edward Willett will perform Elegy for the Unmentioned, a duet for bass and cello, commissioned by Osborn. Other orchestral performers from the Twin Ports are the Highland String Quartet (Steve Highland, Betsy Husby, Laurie Bastian, Ron Kari); Melanie Sever; Jefferson Campbell; Jim Pospisil; Vince Osborn; Edward Willett; Ted Schoen; Kim Stellmaker Anderson; Earl Salemink; Jeremy Craycraft; Brett Jones; and Cory Coffman.
