Weyerhaeuser Family Program
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
Come to the Carlton County Historical Society museum in Cloquet next Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. to meet Ted Weyerhaeuser and author Judith Koll Healey for a program about the Weyerhaeuser family.
This event, co-sponsored by the Carlton County Historical Society and the Cloquet Public Library, introduces Judy Healey, author of a recent biography of Frederick Weyerhaeuser, the man who started the Weyerhaeuser lumber empire in the 1800s, significantly shaping the American economy and landscape from Wisconsin westward. Healey graduated from high school in Winona, attended St. Benedict's, the College of St. Theresa and the University of Minnesota, studying continental literature. She taught at Our Lady of Peace High School, then traveled around the state teaching grassroots lobbying. She's worked with Minnesota's corporate, private and community foundations for 30 years and has authored resource material, a novel, and now a biography.
We will also welcome Cloquet's own, Frederick Theodore "Ted" Weyerhaeuser, great-grandson of Frederick Weyerhaeuser and former president and CEO of Conwed in Cloquet. Ted Weyerhaeuser will augment the book talk with personal family recollections.
This Book Talk and Program brings to life the museum's current exhibit "Wood City Smokestacks," highlighting the history of Cloquet's three big wood products industries, including Northwest Paper Company and the Wood Conversion Company, both Weyerhaeuser interests.
After the program, signed copies of the Weyerhaeuser book will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible.
