Winter LSAA Exhibit: Susan Roubal
to
The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its Winter LSAA Gallery exhibition by local artist, Susan Roubal. Raised with three brothers in Marquette, Roubal developed a deep passion for the beautifully rugged scenery that surrounded her. After leaving to pursue a career in medicine as a Pediatric Radiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, her future was abruptly redirected by debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. Successfully battling back from the pain and immobility of RA, Roubal quickly refocused her energy on her childhood love of art with a three-day workshop in soft pastels. Since this workshop she has explored other medias, in addition to pastel, and has garnered several awards for her work, including first place at the 63rd Annual Exhibition for the Grosse Pointe Artist’s Association and Best New Member Award, first place and Best of Show at the Michigan State Fair, the Bobbi Ameen Award for Best use of Color at the 43rd Annual Art on the Rocks, and first place at the 44th Annual Art on the Rocks, among others. In 2003, Roubal was invited to participate in the fourth Annual Pastel 100, an esteemed international pastel competition that recognizes the top 100 pastel artists in the world.
The LSAA exhibit will run from November 22 – December 29 with an artist reception held on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.
The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.
