Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society presents Movies at the Museum on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 1 p.m. at its museum in Cloquet.
Two 16 millimeter films with sound, recently digitized from the museum's collection, will be shown on the big screen. The first movie shows operations at the Wood Conversion Company in Cloquet. Watch the assembly line production and visit the chemists' lab in this 1940s film. The second movie from the 1950s, entitled "Fire on the Land", shows precautions to prevent forest fires, such as the 1918 fire that destroyed Moose Lake, Kettle River, Cloquet, Hermantown and parts of Duluth. These movies bring an added dimension to the museum's current exhibit "Wood City Smokestacks" about the three big Cloquet wood products industries, including the Wood Conversion Company, built on the ruins of the 1918 fire and known today as USG.
During the program, popcorn and punch will be available and a door prize drawing will be held during intermission. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call 218-879-1938.
