"Wooden Boats Afloat" is a Michigan Humanities Council project that documents for the first time the wooden boat-building heritage of the Upper Peninsula. The exhibit at Bonifas Fine Arts Center looks at the role of wooden boats in the U.P.’s economic, social, and cultural settings. There are contributions from boat enthusiasts and experts from restoration boatyards, Huron Mountain Club, Westshore Fishing Museum, commercial fishermen and rowing clubs. Special features include displays on the Great Lakes Boat Building School and birch bark canoes. The center is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
