Workshop: "Genocide: Lessons and Questions"

The Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Studies will host a workshop "Genocide: Lessons and Questions" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Griggs Center, on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register and to receive a box lunch, contact Deborah Petersen-Perlman at dpeters1@d.umn.edu by March 16.

The conference schedule is as follows:

8:30 a.m.: Register and Sign-In

9 a.m. – 10: 30 a.m.: Joe Eggers, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, will present “The Aftermath of the U.S. Dakota War.”

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Ellen Kennedy, executive director, World Without Genocide, will present “Germany’s Two Genocides: From Herero to the Holocaust.”

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Lunch (register by March 16 to reserve a box lunch)

1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Lou Ann Matossian, a Twin Cities community historian, and Artyom Tonoyan, research associate in the Modern Greek Studies Program at the Institute for Global Studies, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, will present “The Armenian Genocide and the Destruction of the Armenian Culture in Ottoman Turkey.”

3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Wahutu Siguru, Ph.D. candidate, Sociology Department, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, will present “African Media Representations of the Rwanda Genocide and Darfur.”
