The seventh annual WritersRead will feature 17 regional authors Friday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alvord Theatre at Northland College.
Organized by the Northland College Writing Department with sponsorship from Aqueous Magazine and Wisconsin Public Radio, the event will be emceed by Cynthia Belmont, professor of English, and is free and open to the public.
WritersRead is an annual Moth Radio-like event where organizers challenge regional writers to write to a theme and if selected, read their pieces at a public event. Poets and writers of fiction and nonfiction have written about love, food, travel, elements, taboos, and transformation.
This year, WritersRead will explore the dark side.
Nonfiction readers include: Duluth chicken farmer Lucie Amundsen, author of “Locally Laid: How We Built a Plucky-Industry Egg Farm — From Scratch,” winner of the 2016 Midwest Choice Award in Nonfiction, Northland College alumnus Andy Butter of Grand Marais, Minn, Janette Christie, Isabel Jacobson of Ashland, Gina Kirsten of Washburn and Cindi McGrath of Hayward.
Fiction readers include: Colene Lee of Washburn, J.W. Sutton Jr. of Ashland, and Northland College students Kyra Thornley and Michaela Fisher.
Poets include: Jan Chronister of Maple, Deanna Erickson of Duluth, Rob Ganson of Washburn, Northland College alumni Anna Hipke-Krueger of Washburn and Diana Randolph of Drummond, Liz Minette of Esko, and Paul Peterson of Superior.
