Writing Home Series: From the Driftless to Lake Superior Country
to
The Spot 116 14th Ave E., Ashland, Wisconsin 54806
Throughout her career as a journalist, author and adjunct professor at Northland College, Julie Buckles has shared stories of her upbringing in southwestern Wisconsin—referred to as the Driftless region—and her adult life in northern Wisconsin.
Buckles will share some of those stories April 18 at The Spot in Ashland at 7:30 p.m., as part of the “Writing Home” series. The series, which has featured authors Nickolas Butler, Peter Geye and Patty Loew, concludes with Buckles.
The author of Paddling to Winter, Buckles combines an easy storytelling style with enthusiasm for her home state.
Sponsored in part by Apostle Islands Bookseller, books will be for sale and available for signing.
In addition to the talk, The Spot will be hosting a dinner with the author before the event, starting at 5:30 p.m. Buckles has been paired with her good friend Mary Dougherty, otherwise known as the Cookery Maven. Dougherty writes the food blog www.cookerymaven.com and has a contract for a cookbook due out by Wisconsin Historical Press in 2017.
