August Fairs Around the Lake
County fair season is here, and this week midway lights, grandstand races, livestock barns, live music and plenty of fair food take over communities around Lake Superior.
The Carlton County Fair in Barnum and Ashland County Fair in Marengo both run August 13–16, while the Murillo Fair near Thunder Bay gets underway August 14.
And the fun doesn’t end Sunday. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula State Fair opens August 17 in Escanaba for a full week of rides, agriculture, food and entertainment. This year’s grandstand lineup includes country artists Phil Vassar and Midland.
Whether you’re chasing a demolition derby, carnival rides or just a bag of something deep-fried, there’s a fair happening somewhere around the Big Lake this August.
