Kimberly Evavold-Bolf, from Duluth, Minn.:
I received a window hummingbird feeder from one of my third grade students in 2011 and decided to put it on our front-door window, hoping that a hummingbird would come. Within two days a hummingbird was visiting the feeder. I watched to see if there was a pattern in the visits, and decided that the best time was late afternoon. I propped my Nikon D90 on a tripod and angled it so that the camera was almost touching the house. I used a 28-105mm lens, 1/2500 sec at F/4.5, ISO 400, no flash and a trigger release. I sat inside the house and waited for a bird to come. I was able to get two shots that day and this is one of them.
