Mary Durocher Hudson of Washburn and her sister, Alice Hudson, (they married brothers!) took "a marvelous 5 days" doing the Lake Superior Circle Tour this summer of 2012.
She makes these observations:
Laughter fueled the car, although we DID use gas and got 32 mpg with my little Scion.
I think our favorite places were on the eastern shore as the rocky bottom gave the water such a fabulous aquamarine hue, something we never see over here on the south shore. Besides the Lake was W-I-L-D so the rollers were majestic.
When my husband and I did the trip back in the 90s, there was no restaurant at Pancake Bay, but now there is and they serve fantastic food. And it was way too cold to swim or even wade in Batchawana Bay, which claims to have the warmest water on Lake Superior. I was going to compare temps with Chequamagon Bay cuz I think WE have the warmest water! Even had my thermometer :o)
In talking to the attendant at Agawa Bay Visitor Centre I STILL think we can make the claim as she looked up the marine charts and their warmest water was 72 degrees and ours was 74-76 degrees this past summer.
