Tall Ships Duluth 2013: Parade of Sail

A fleet of historic tall-masted vessels spent last weekend in Sault Ste. Marie, at the Lake’s eastern terminus, as part of the summer’s Tall Ships Challenge series of events. (Photos from Soo Today.) Several more made stops in ports along the south shore of the Lake.
On Thursday, nine tall ships converged outside the Duluth harbor for a Parade of Sail, which LSM photographers captured from perspectives high and low. In all, Visit Duluth estimates 250,000 people will visit the city for the weekend festivities, which include ship tours, dockside viewing, sailaways and live music.

+ Following up on a story from last week, land on Lake Superior owned by the state of Minnesota sold for $1.2 million on Wednesday, reports Minnesota Public Radio. A parks and trails group called the sale “disappointing,” says MPR.

+ North Shore Community Radio, based in Grand Marais, Minnesota, won an Environmental Stewardship Award from the Lake Superior Binational Forum for the Lake Superior Project radio series.
