One casualty of the 2012 Duluth floods was the historic swinging bridge at Jay Cooke State Park – the second time it's been washed out.

The bridge, built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, was flooded in 1950 (pictured) and rebuilt in 1953. The stone pillars survived both floods.

By August 2012, the bridge is to be rebuilt to its original 1934 condition with log hand-rails. Most area of the park are open again and more will open this summer.
