St. Louis River Alliance announced its 17th Annual Environmental Stewardship Awards. Cloquet Middle School teacher Cynthia Welsh got the The Sally Gibson Environmental Stewardship Award for mentoring of students researching river health issues; Willard Munger Inn (Willard and Sally Munger) received the Randy Marshall Environmental Stewardship Award for conscientious environmental business practices and support of the Alliance; and David Zenter got a Lifetime Achievement Environmental Stewardship Award for exceptional leadership and dedication to protecting the St. Louis River.
National Geographic named Isle Royale’s Greenstone Ridge Trail as one of 20 Best Hikes in national parks.
Doug Jensen, aquatic invasive species program coordinator at Minnesota Sea Grant in Duluth, earned the National Invasive Species Council’s first-ever Outstanding Invasive Species Outreach and Education Award for his achievements in advancing awareness and understanding of aquatic invasive species through outreach and education nationally, regionally and statewide.
