Split Rock Lighthouse State Park 3755 Split Rock Lighthouse Road, Two Harbors, Minnesota 55616
Split Rock Lighthouse will commemorate the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald with its annual beacon lighting Nov. 10. The Fitzgerald and its crew of 29 went down in Lake Superior Nov. 10, 1975. Every year, Split Rock Lighthouse honors the lives lost in this maritime disaster with a ceremony that begins with reading the names of those who perished, ringing a ship’s bell and concluding with illuminating the lighthouse beacon. The annual ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m., followed by a chance for visitors to tour the lighthouse. This is the only opportunity during the year for visitors to be in the lighthouse while the beacon is on. Stop by the visitor center to view a movie about the Edmund Fitzgerald. The visitor center and museum store is open from noon to 6 p.m. The cost: $7 per person, or free for Minnesota Historical Society members. 218-226-6372. www.mnhs.org/splitrock
