Blessing of the Fleet
to
Bayfield Memorial Park 1 Rittenhouse Ave., Bayfield, Wisconsin 54814
History comes to life on Sunday, June 16 with Bayfield's traditional Blessing of the Fleet ceremony in the scenic city harbor. Coinciding with Father's Day, the Blessing event is a perfect activity for families to do together on Dad's special day.
The ecumenical Blessing service will begin at 1 p.m. at Bayfield's Memorial Park Gazebo. After this short, non-denominational service, attendees will have the opportunity to head down onto the harbor breakwater and watch as nearly thirty vessels (including commercial fishing boats, excursion boats, sailboats, power boats, rowboats, kayaks and even canoes) pass by the the tip of the pier. Local clergymen will grant each vessel a blessing for safe passage and a prosperous season on Lake Superior by way of pine bough dipped in the waters of Lake Superior.
