December Art Exhibits

City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center 217 Front Street, Marquette, Michigan 49855
The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its November/December LSAA Gallery exhibition by painter and printmaker, Bernie Park. Park, a Master of Fine Arts graduate from Michigan State University, developed a fascination for painting early on in life. Since relocating to Marquette County in 1998, Park has exhibited his work across the Upper Peninsula, most recently at the Great Lakes Show Case in Houghton, Michigan. His exhibit will include paintings highly influenced by Tonalism, a late 19th century landscape movement, and will primarily be based on photographs taken in the Porcupine Mountains and Marquette County.
The December SmallWorks Gallery will feature photography by Corey Kelly. Kelly began her exploration of the world through a lens at the age of 15 when her grandfather gave her his Canon camera. While her light-heartedness and curiosity-filled blue eyes make her a clone of her grandfather, she embodies her mother's word-loving and adventurous spirit. Since graduating from Northern Michigan University in 2013, she has shared her love of photography with others through workshops and her participation in group shows. Her exhibit will feature photographs aiming to depict the story of small places.
The LSAA Gallery installation will be running from Nov. 24 to Dec. 30 and the SmallWorks exhibit will be available for viewing on Dec. 1 through Dec. 30. There will be a combined artist reception on Thursday, Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring a pop-up art show put on by NMU Outdoor Recreation students. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.
The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library. For more information or questions, please contact 906-228-0472 or email arts-culture@mqtcty.org.
