Sara Cole helps explore these questions in a lecture series on feminist literature:
* What does it mean to read literature through the lens of gender, why does it matter, and how is it done?
* Are texts written and read differently by people of different genders?
* What are gender stereotypes in fiction and how can they be resisted and revised?
* What is the position of women writers in the canon, is this position changing, and what are the main catalysts of these changes?
This series will introduce attendees to some of the major theories, concepts, and debates of feminist literary studies. Since theory and fiction should always exist in conversation, we will weave the two together as we wrestle with questions listed above.
The readings will be short stories and excerpts from essays and novels.
Sara looks forward to great reading and lively discussion as we come together to explore feminist literature.
