From June 19-23, the Keweenaw Peninsula will host FinnFest USA 2013, a celebration of Finnish and Finnish-American culture and heritage. The five-day event will feature music, dances, presentations, lectures, historic and cultural tours, and the famous Tori marketplace.
Centered at the Student Development Complex at Michigan Tech, there will be events at Finlandia University, throughout Houghton and Hancock, as well as special events and evenings in Calumet, Copper Harbor, and a mid-summer “Juhannus” bonfire in Toivola. Special events at this FinnFest include an attempt to break the Guinness World record in Nordic Walking on Saturday, June 22, and a one-day Education Forum on Wednesday, June 19, highlighting Finland’s world-renowned education system.
