Larsmont Schoolhouse Centennial Celebration
Larsmont Schoolhouse 701 Larsmont Rd., Larsmont, Minnesota 55616
For 100 years, Larsmont, Minnesota’s Little Red Schoolhouse has served the small Lake Superior community southwest of Two Harbors as everything from a one-room schoolhouse to headquarters of the Volunteer Fire Department. On August 23-24, the Larsmont Community Club invites visitors and residents to celebrate one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in Minnesota with a two-day event beginning each day at 10 a.m.
There will be arts and crafts booths, jewelry, demonstrations, music, vendors and enactors. Food and ice cream will also be available. Optional dress with the costume of the day (1914-1925-ish) is encouraged. Winners of the Centennial Coloring Contest will be announced with submissions posted in the Schoolhouse.
During the event, riders on the North Shore Scenic Railroad from Duluth to Two Harbors will have the option of getting off the train in Larsmont where the old train depot once stood. From there, a shuttle will take folks to the Schoolhouse. Special tickets are available at northshorescenicrailroad.org.
On Saturday, August 23, there will be an ecumenical church service on the Schoolhouse grounds conducted by Pastor Jim Joseph of the Living Waters Church in Two Harbors. People are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
