Mountie Program at Museum
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society welcomes Peter Spooner, former curator at Tweed Museum of Art in Duluth, as he presents a program on "Mountie Poster Art and Artists" on Saturday, August 23 at 1 p.m. at the CCHS museum in Cloquet.
This program helps interpret the new exhibit "65 Treasures," which commemorates the 65th Anniversary of the Carlton County Historical Society with sixty-five unique and significant items from the museum's collection that tell about the history of Carlton County. One of the sixty-five items is an original oil painting depicting a Canadian "Mountie" greeting a trader. These "Mountie" paintings were part of an advertising campaign of the Northwest Paper Company, which had its headquarters and a mill in Cloquet. Spooner's program will provide information about the artist of this painting, and tell us more about other "Mountie" artists.
Refreshments will be served after the program. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and free for children under 5 and CCHS members. Active duty military personnel and their families are welcome free of charge at the CCHS museum through Labor Day. The museum is handicapped accessible and air conditioned. For more information call the CCHS at 218-879-1938.
