The Carlton County Historical Society welcomes Cloquet native, Paul Fahlstrom, as the guest speaker for the Smithsonian Magazine "Museum Day Live!" event on Saturday, September 27.
"Museum Day Live!" is an annual event for participating museums throughout the country, where museum visitors are admitted free of charge with a ticket from the Smithsonian Magazine. Just contact their website www.Smithsonian.com/museumdaylive to get a free ticket.
The CCHS museum will be open for "Museum Day Live!" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a special program at 1 p.m. by Paul Fahlstrom, who is visiting Cloquet from his home in Maryland. The author of several books on Cloquet and Carlton County history, Fahlstrom will speak about "The Fahlstrom-Gerin-Olesen Connection."
This program helps interpret the museum's current exhibit "65 Treasures," which commemorates the 65th Anniversary of the Carlton County Historical Society with 65 unique and significant items from the museum's collection that tell about the history of Carlton County. Three of the 65 items on exhibit include the music of Louis Gerin, the U.S. Navy dress uniform of Captain Marcel Gerin and Anna Dickey Olesen's velvet coat. Fahlstrom will explain how these personalities were connected and give his personal reminiscences.
After the program, Fahlstrom will autograph his local history books for sale and refreshments will be served. Admission to the museum is normally $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12 and free for children under 5 and CCHS members. Remember to get your free ticket at the Smithsonian Magazine website! The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call the CCHS at 218-879-1938.
