St. Urho's Day at the Museum
to
Carlton County Historical Society 406 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, Minnesota 55720
The Carlton County Historical Society celebrates St. Urho's Day on Monday, March 16, with a 1 p.m. program by Finnish weaver, Siiri Peterson, at its museum in Cloquet.
Siiri Peterson is a long time resident of Cromwell, Minnesota, where she worked for the Cromwell Co-op for 30 years. She weaves rugs on her rug loom at home, first sewing the pieces of fabric she cuts for weaving with her old treadle Singer sewing machine. She will explain the rug weaving process, show examples of her work and demonstrate the use of the loom on the museum's working loom. This loom is part of the museum's current exhibit called "Stitchers and Weavers of Carlton County." Come and meet one of Carlton County's stitchers and weavers.
After the program, we will all recite the "Ode to St. Urho," toast St. Urho with grape juice and sample Finnish treats including Pulla. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5 and Carlton County Historical Society members. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information call 218-879-1938.
