Marquette Regional History Center, in collaboration with Woodland Offshoots Programming Series, presents "What is a managed Forest?" Thursday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. at Longyear Forest outside Champion. Tour the Longyear Forest with Forest Operations Manager Tim Schneider and learn about how trees are selected, what kind of habitat is created and what methods of harvesting are used. Dress according to weather, as you will be hiking through forested areas. Attendees will tour a recent harvest in Forestville. And they will learn about maintaining a healthy and diverse forest; regeneration and silviculture; harvesting methods and equipment; best management practices; and the Commercial Forest Act.
