Thunder Bay Art Gallery will unveil two new exhibitions from its permanent collection Friday, January 30, at noon, and both will run through March 8. “Drawn from Legends: Works from the Permanent Collection” explores work that illustrates the stories that continue to resonate with us. The exhibition features the work of artists such as Bob Boyer, Carl Ray, Jackson Beardy, Doug Lafortune, Ivan Otterlifter and Roy Thomas among others. "Leo Yerxa: Impermanence" is the second exhibition. Curator Nadia Kurd says that for more than 40 years, "Anishnawbe author and artist Leo Yerxa has had a diverse artistic life. As an author of children’s books, he has been recognized for his poeticism and evocative illustrations. In his art, he has approached an array of themes and subject matter on canvas and paper." The exhibit explores the gallery’s significant holdings of the artist’s watercolor work from the 1970s and 1980s. Viewing hours at the gallery are noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. 807-577-6427. www.theag.ca.
