Repair work is underway on five historic light stations at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, the National Park Service said Tuesday in a news release. The lights – Michigan, Devils, Sand, La Pointe and Outer Island – will be closed this summer and into the fall.

New Brown Trout Stocked in the Lake

Lake Superior anglers near Duluth and Superior may soon be catching a new strain of brown trout. In late May, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources stocked about 60,000 Seeforellen-strain brown trout in Lake Superior waters near Superior.
+ One year after Duluth’s 500-year flood sent tons of sediment into the Lake and rearranged streams, Lake Superior fisheries appear little affected, reports the Associated Press.
North Country Trail Extended

The [Wisconsin] Department of Natural Resources approved the $182,800 purchase Wednesday of a 78-acre campground eight miles south of the city of Superior to extend the North Country National Scenic Trail.
The 4,600-mile North Country Trail connects seven U.S. states, starting in North Dakota and ending in New York.
Anti-bullying Project Wins Award
In Houghton, the Keweenaw Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council won an award for its anti-bullying board game, reports the Mining Gazette.
