This week at Michigan Technological University, seven members of the Michigan State Police Underwater Recovery Unit are receiving training on advanced underwater sonar and search and recovery techniques. Staff at the Great Lakes Research Center is helping the team learn to operate the new equipment and the unit will in turn help with some dive projects.
Duluth City Council votes against proposed Park Point traffic changes

Park Point residents showed up in force at Duluth City Hall on Tuesday night to express their displeasure with a plan that could have a big impact on future development and traffic flow on the world’s longest freshwater sand spit.
+ Duluth advanced to the regional final of Outside magazine's Best Town tournament. The city is now in a showdown with Minneapolis, which defeated Houghton, Michigan, in the previous round. Voting for this round ends on June 3.

+ Soo Evening News: "Every year more than 15,000 Michigan youngsters are involved in hatching Chinook salmon eggs (supplied by Department of Natural Resources’ fish hatcheries) and feeding and caring for the fry until they are old enough, in the spring, to be released into local rivers — hopefully to return in four years to spawn."
