Apostle Islands ice caves to open on Saturday
They're back.
Last winter's viral sensation, the iced-over mainland sea caves of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will open to the public on Saturday, February 28. Park rangers say the ice near the caves is finally sufficiently thick and stable to allow safe access.
The ice caves drew 138,000 people to the Bayfield Peninsula last winter.
Here's an early report from Marilyn Magnuson:

How long they'll stay open is up to Mother Nature. In 2014, lakeshore officials opened the caves in January and closed them when the Lake Superior ice became unsafe in mid-March. If you'd like to go this year, don't wait!
