It happened today – the change of season.
No, no – not summer to fall, but straw hats to felt and wool hats. Being a full-time wearer of hats, this is a fashion/practical rule I need to follow. So when the local temperatures dipped below freezing last night, I snipped the small egg plant off its vine (early harvest) and then this morning, I pulled down the fall-winter hat boxes.
Now, I’ve heard that there is a fashion rule about no white pants after Labor Day. That rule hasn’t made a real difference in my life. Given my clumsiness, any pair of white pants I’d ever own would be appaloosa with spots after the first lunch.
With hats, though, I must pay attention. This is the most uncertain of seasons, as you must shift continually from summer to fall, depending on the temperatures. Above 65, I switch back to straw. Lower, I keep those wool or felt hats on my head. That’s a lot of hat-box shuffling, my friends.
So, it’s the hat season change today for me. What is your shift into a new season?
