Kama Bay
Kama Bay, Ontario, the northernmost point of Lake Superior.
Lake Superior Magazine’s relationship with its readers is often a close and personal one. We’re always amazed at how much this family of ours shares with us, from when the kids go to college to graduations and even who’s having a baby. And we always seem to talk about the weather. Of course, our readers also let us know what they like in the magazine, which helps to keep us on the right track.
One thing they continue to ask for is an easy way to experience the Lake Superior Circle Tour, when they aren’t able to drive the 1,300-mile route themselves. We've checked with a number of tour operators who provide bus tours irregularly around the Lake, but nothing predictable, and often they are organized only for a particular club or other group. Cindy and I have talked for years about organizing our own bus tour. Well, this year, we’re finally getting around to it.
We have a longtime buddy in Bill Sjoblom, a Minnesota North Shore native who lives in Texas and does Lake Superior bus tours for his Austin neighbors through SJO-PRO Tours. They’ve always been successful (and are always sold out). So, we said to Bill, “We ought to do our own tour, in the fall when the colors are brilliant.” He agreed. And, that’s what we’re going to do.
We know that there’s an audience for the tours, from the many calls we get. We just hope that it is something that appeals enough to make it a regular offering. There will be two 10-day tours in 2015, one beginning on September 11 and the second on September 21. Bill has made these tours all-inclusive with meals, transportation, lodging, tips – the whole shebang. There’ll even be a side trip to Mackinac Island.
If you’re interested, we’ve got all the information on a webpage, and you can download the full itinerary. Or give us a call at 888-BIG LAKE. Let us know what you think. We hope to hit the mark on this one.
