The John G. Munson anchored outside the Duluth harbor, January 24, 2013.
The John G. Munson is anchored outside the Duluth harbor today, poking out of the sea smoke.
Adele Yorde at the Port Authority says the Munson is waiting for the USCGC Alder to break the harbor ice when she returns to Duluth tomorrow morning, between 7 and 9 a.m.
The Great Lake Fleet's Munson is the last vessel into the harbor for layup and, with the Manitowac laying up at Essar Steel in the Soo yesterday, she's the final boat on the Lake this season. The Munson will spend the winter at Fraser Shipyards.
UPDATE, 1/25/13: The Munson moved into the harbor mid-day Friday. The Soo Locks will reopen, and the new shipping season will start, on March 25. We posted a few photos on the LSM Facebook page.
