Wildlife biologist Dajun Wang will present “Giant Panda: A Successful Conservation Story?” Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Northland College Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute. The giant panda, one of the most charismatic conservation species of our time, was recently down-listed internationally from endangered to vulnerable. Many people cheered the change as signaling a conservation success story. A long-term field study reveals a more complex story of wild giant panda life history. Dajun is a wildlife biologist with the School of Life Sciences at Peking University, based in Bejing, China. His research focuses on the ecology of wildlife in western China, especially endangered species conservation and the role of human disturbance. He is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on wild giant pandas. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the college at 715-682-1699.
