+ Banshee, the mascot of the U.P. 200 sled dog race, will retire after this year’s race, reports the Mining Journal. After the 12-year-old’s farewell tour this winter, she’ll be succeeded by public-relations pup Seamus.
Mystery Barrels Saga Continues
Last summer, the Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe recovered from the Lake 25 more barrels, dumped by the military in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and found still-active small explosives inside, the band announced last week. Now the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating the band’s handling of the barrels, reports the Duluth News Tribune.
Study: Shipping Greener than Land-based Alternatives
A new study finds that Great Lakes shipping is “more fuel-efficient and emit[s] fewer greenhouse gases per thousand cargo-ton miles than land-based alternatives,” reports WDIO. The 144-page report is available for download [PDF].
