Stop in at our Outlet Store (310 E. Superior St., Duluth, MN) during Small Business Saturday.Happy Thanksgiving
All of us at Lake Superior Magazine hope our U.S. readers enjoyed their Thanksgivings. This writer hosted his very first Thanksgiving – and cooked his very first turkey. Fortunately, there were no major mishaps and Alton Brown’s recipe was as good as advertised. (The magic's in the brine!) Everyone left well sated.
Next up: Juli Kellner’s Easy Vegetable Soup with Turkey Broth & Dumplings.
Welcome Back, Winter
Feeling left out of the holiday festivities, winter arrived abruptly yesterday with the Thanksgiving guests.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the southern shore of the Lake, where heavy lake-effect snow is expected. Parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin could accumulate as much as 12 inches of snow by tomorrow morning (Saturday Nov. 24).
In Minnesota, the Duluth airport reported 5 inches by this morning (Friday, Nov. 23). Two Harbors got 6, according to the Duluth News Tribune. (That’s 12-15 cm, for our Canadian readers.)
Visit Thunder Bay says, “Winter arrived pretty quickly overnight. From 8 celcius to minus 5 and 15 cm of fresh snow over 12 hours. … The good news is that the ski hills and trails are going to be awesome very very shortly!”
Snow showers and periodic gale force winds will hit Sault Ste. Marie this weekend, with some accumulation expected, says the National Weather Service.
According to Canada’s Weather Office, in Wawa “total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are likely by this evening. The highest amounts are expected for regions northeast of Lake Superior.” (That’s about 7 inches worth for our U.S. readers.)
